Designing Cashless ATM Machine

Cashless ATM machines are used to do all bank transactions except receiving cashes.  These machines are installed in public spaces. Due to the direct interactions with users, the aforementioned machines must have easy functions and conceivable user interactions. Industrial designers are responsible to make this goal real. Generally, the importance of industrial designers’ roles is increased when more user interactions with products are needed. Usability should be so important not only in products which are used a lot, such as an ATM machine, but also in ones that are used rarely such as a fire extinguisher capsule. If the product has various features and functions that causes confusion and disappointment for users, the usability will be more challenging. When the usability is counted as an essential criterion, industrial designers must be certain about the influential functions of products’ features.

The quality improvement of user interaction with cashless ATM machines, creating a unique appearance and visual identity for Fanap payment company’s products are the main purposes of this project. Different groups of people are using this product in public spaces, so industrial designers must have complete cognition, and they must present not only a beautiful design, but also the appropriate product with considering peoples’ opinions who are the fan of using technological products. The initial priorities in designing this product are usability and user interaction in working with cashless ATM machine, and the second priorities are low-maintenance and serviceability. This product has to be open and closed in different conditions, and its components must be repaired or replaced easily. In order to this aim, some components which need more repairing and replacing, have better accesses

Challenges of designing the product

  • Considering design standards for products related to banks and ATM machines.
  • Presenting the design of ATM machine with capability of installation in different conditions at public spaces
  • Designing the ATM machine with considering all of the possibilities related to Vandalism and stealing
  • Resistance against penetrating of dust and water in outdoors
  • Presenting the design of Cashless ATM machine with capability of development in other familiar products
  • Designing the placements of ATM machine’s components based on possibilities relate to repairing and maintenance

Properties of the final design

  • Curved surfaces and rounded corners in this product are produced with metal sheets that are bended and punched by C.N.C machines
  • Considering solutions to prevent ATM machines from stealing and destroying
  • Presenting solutions in designing details of the body to prevent the machine from penetrating dust and water
  • Considering the possibility and ease of assembling machine’s modules in a short time
  • Designing based on different scenarios of usage and various groups of users
  • Making product’s prototypes to evaluate and assess it in different steps
  • Using guidance icons for efficiency improvement and better interactions between users and the product
