The structure should be made from durable, impact- and corrosion-resistant materials such as powder-coated galvanized steel or engineered plastics like HDPE, ensuring longevity, cost efficiency, and ease of maintenance. Smooth, seamless surfaces are essential to enable easy cleaning, while removable inner containers improve hygiene and simplify waste handling. Mobility features such as wheels, handles, or adjustable feet further enhance usability, especially in high-traffic environments.

From an ergonomic and functional standpoint, the bin should typically have a height of 90–110 cm and a well-proportioned inlet opening of 20–25 cm with rounded, safe edges suitable for all users.
